This is a student film project shot in 1968 for a class at RIT in Rochester, NY. It was made by filmmaker Tom Nottingham and stars Ed Steffens with a cameo appearance by Kerry Decker. The film shows the aspects of continuity, close ups and composition. It was shot on 16mm silent black & white film. The basic story involves Ed arriving at an apartment house and taking the elevator up to see his friend, Kerry.
So much for the technical aspects!! Many college students enjoy living off-campus in less than ideal housing. Such is the case here. This film was made at the Wadsworth Apartments in downtown Rochester. (Since demolished.) Without the benefits of low-light film or super-wide lenses, Tom shot this in less than ideal conditions. He set up lighting in the hallways and had to set up floodlights inside the elevator & shoot with a medium wide angle lens. It was hot and cramped. The generic music was added in the 1980s when I transferred this film to tape.
Now that this information has taken longer than the film itself, please enjoy "The Apartment".
