Hi, this was originally a hand written tutorial that was published in NeoMagazine.
You can see the original article here
http://chinsoon.deviantart.com/art/Laura-s-Ayane-Cosplay-Guide-137291776

I decided to make this a video tutorial as well for those who may not have seen the original article. I'm sorry I don't have any videos of the dying process, but I hope this helps anyone who is looking to do gradient dying or silk painting.

I used this technique to create my obi ribbon for my Ayane costume from Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2

Thank you for watching, I hope you enjoy
x

  • Thanks you very much for this tutorial! I'm planning on cosplaying Vanille from Final Fantasy XIII and her skirt has a gradient, so this really helps me out. It's my first cosplay, so I was really worried about the skirt, but now I'm not so nervous anymore :) Thanks!

  • @Saphitri oh first cosplay, fantastic. If you have any other questions don't hesitate to ask. good luck x

  • such a pro video, I feel as if it was made for tv and ripped onto youtube, lol.

  • Beautifully done, as per usual. Your voice is amazing in this Sands, very proper and easy to listen to. Good diction and easy to understand what you're saying.

  • easy instructions easy to follow good job!

  • What an elegant tutorial :) Lovely!

  • Oh and another question, when you said 'every 5 to 10 minutes keep dipping it in' do you in the space off that time leave it in the gradient dye or take it out and hang it up?

    thanks again :3

  • I was wondering if this would also work for cotton? As in will the Dylon dye you used create a nice Gradient effect like this?

  • could this be done with more than two colors? I've been trying to think up a method for going yellow, green, blue, and indigo. Now this is probably one of those "only in anime" things, but I'm not ready to give up quite yet.

  • that's all it takes? :O wow... THANKS FOR THE VID! :D
