I remember my parents watching all the news coverage of this with me. I was 10 at the time. Blind faith in a leader that promises you everything will and always will take your soul. Lets not drink the kool aid again in 2012.

@FoxGTR32 but not before killing the senator and most of the defectors, and wounding some of the staff and news crew who went with the Senator to Guyana. Before the shootings, Jim Jones was already calling for mass suicide as he had done years before when only 8 people defected from the church...Then as if it was planned to a T, after his red brigade returned and informed them that the congressman was dead (sorry I said 'senator' earlier)..he stopped discussions and ordered the suicide.

@FoxGTR32...and he performed staged miracles, and he had not only his followers completely under his thumb, but when he moved his church to San Francisco he also supported in the political world. When Jim Jones was about to be exposed for alot of what he was doing behind the doors of the church, he moved his people to avoid public scrutiny to Guyana. When there, a senator oragnized a team to go to Guyana and investigate Jonestown, when they tried to leave with defectors, Jones ordered a suicide.

Jim Jones was a socialist, who infiltrated under the guise of religion to lead people to what he called Apostolic socialism, he created a religion within this country that was like an organization that operated like an interracial pentacostal church basically but was completely socialist, they were completely taken care of, but they worked and attended church non-stop..
