Examples of evaluation and treatment of the /r/ sound (vocalic r) using protocols from The Entire World of R. What's useful with this video is to see and hear that the student, who obviously cannot produce /r/ initially, can in fact successfully say the word "serious" after shaping by the speech-language pathologist (SLP). This demonstrates how to pronounce the "R" sound. These techniques are just some of the tools available to address /r/ articulation disorders. The Entire World of R Multimedia Training Course from Say It Right contains more video like this. For more information go to www.sayitright.org

  • I cheered when he got that very clear /r/ at the end! I did this for 26 years and loved it. When a child finally got a difficult sound and could produce it at 80% the group would have a speech treat to celebrate!

  • @kaylu12 Communicating clearly and "having a voice" is certainly something to celebrate!

  • I remember doing this. I took speech therpary from pre-school through eigth grade. I hated it so much. Then in fifth grade i tansfered from my school to a private school and they didn't really offer a progam but i did get help, then sixth grade I left school early to go to a public school to get it. They finally let me quit after half way through eight grade. I was so happy but i still have problems with "r" and "sh" but everytime my parents mention it I hate I could never stand speech.

  • @cdmusiclover4ever Sorry your experiences were not positive. What we strive to do, is to provide effective tools for professionals, so that kids can get these sounds corrected much earlier in life and much more quickly. Hopefully (and we firmly believe that), children that receive speech services following The Entire World of R protocols get their /r/ sounds corrected in a very short time.

  • im 16, and am still having a hard time with it, it isnt that big of a problem talking, but when im singing it makes it sound bad

  • @thegreatgatsby1994 Awareness is the first step in making a change. Since you're still 16 you should contact your school's speech-language pathologist while you are still eligible for services. He or she can provide some suggestions on what to work on. Good luck.

  • What is wrong with the tongue curling backwards type retroflex R sound used in British English? Most American can not distinguish it from the American bunched "mountain" R. This poor kid is suffering about the bunched R and pronounces it as an L.

  • Wow this is great. I showed this to my students in my articulation group and they LOVED it. Thanks for sharing.
