*whoa* your cat's a serious dog! my MC likes going out on walks too, but our "walks" are more like "drifts." she kind of floats around aimlessly, no particular direction. but sam walks like he's on a mission!

SAMMY YOU GOOD DOGGY

@purplefudgedoodles Well said! :) Cats show how they care in different ways than humans. They're always there sleeping on my whenever I'm sick or feeling down. And it isn't because they simply want food or something else.

love his color, he's a redhead tiger

@purplefudgedoodles As A matter of fact I have 2 cats (Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers) and I love them both and they love it when I give them attention no doubt. Notice I said when I give them attention? The simple fact of the matter is that cats are not here for our pleasure, we're here for their pleasure. I didn't mean to come across as a cat hater because I am not.

@sachinisking1 Would you let your purebred or pedigree cat out, especially if he was that big, they get snatched up in an instant and most breeders, especially in the UK make you sign a contract stating purebreds won't be let outside unless in an ENCLOSED garden because it's too dangerous, they're not wild animals anymore.

Why isnt he allowed out on his own??

My cat LOVES his leash. If he sees me holding it he will follow me or run to the door meowing. I love him (:
I have a maine coon too & he is great. Right now he is about 17 lbs. I have been wanting to walk him too but i dont think he would take the outside noises as well as Sam did. My not so little guys name is Spike.

@jenleeboo1 My suggestion would be to carry him outside and just hold him for a few minutes. Do this every few days for a while. Put him on a harness inside to help get him used to it in a familiar setting. After you do all of this, then try bringing him outside on a leash and harness. That's what I did with Sam. :) Simply bringing him outside without getting him used to the sounds and smells would have been a rather large shock.

Thanks for all the kind comments, everyone! :D It may seem silly to put a cat on a leash but it's really no different than putting a pig or a ferret on a leash. A leash isn't designed just for dogs. :)
An advantage to doing this. If he/she gets out on you, they don't panic and know exactly where they are. Sam got out on me last night and didn't run off in terror as he was already familiar with his surroundings. He doesn't go out anymore (see updated description) but he still knew where he was.

since when do you put a cat on a lead

@OxFairyDustxO Why not? Other animals are put on leashes all the time. :)
