WHAT: Heat-Up St. Louis, Inc., (Cool Down St. Louis) will hosts its 11 th annual board/business meeting reviewing the past twelve months of its programs and fiscal condition, as well as re-elect and elect members of the community to its board of directors. During 2010, the all-volunteer, regional charity received a record-breaking $1.2 million in gross receipts, more than a 30% increase over the previous year. In addition, its summer program, Cool Down St. Louis announced two grants today, at it's 11 th annual businesslboard member $320,000 to help seniors battle the often deadly heat during the summer. The grants came from Mayor Francis Slay for $170,000 from the Utility Tax Fund; and $150,000 from The Missouri Foundation for Health in helping Missouri seniors and disabled avoid health related illnesses this summer and forthcoming winter.
Also, the advocacy, public education and utility assistance charity covering Missouri and Illinois will present 16 Good Neighbor and Community Leadership Awards to area individuals and corporations, who have continued to work in the public's interest in protecting the health and safety of residents throughout the St. Louis region. The Chief Meteorologists were honored for helping keep MissourilIllinois residents safe and wellinformed
during dangerous winter and summer weather conditions. And with its extremely hot, helping to educate the public to Check On Their Senior Neighbors and their pets. The Community Leadership award went to FOX2's Dave Murray, who has also volunteered his talents over the years, helping Heat-Up St. Louis raise funds. The Neighbor Awards were presented to Cindy Preszler, KSDK, Newschannel 5, Steve Templeton, KMOV, Channel 4, and John Fuller, KPLR-TV 11, who was on vacation and Suzi Mahe, VP of Creative Services for the station, accepted his honors.
Background: Since its inception, Heat-Up St. Louis (Cool Down St. Louis) as received more than $7 million and aided through utility assistance and agency referrals more than 160,000 seniors, disabled and low-income residents with small children. 100% of all public grants and donations will service the needy, with a 52-member, diverse board underwriting all administrative costs.
