Wow. Finally a new video is up. This was a 4 week process for several reasons. I must admit I am quite happy with the results. Here is some information regarding the development of the video and the reason why it took so long.
1. I wanted to create a interesting piece utilizing the idea of recording several instruments live. I had intentions of utilizing this concept in future videos. However, since the process is so long and cumbersome, I am not sure if I will continue doing this. In fact I honestly did not intend to score this piece, however since I had no idea how to develop the music I ended up scoring the piece by hand cause I wanted this idea to work well.
2. I had several problems with my hardware. The VSTIS that I recorded in cubase when I recorded live did not sit well with the hardware. It was causing crack snackle pops and was delaying the sound of the recorded notes. I finally found a decent work around using ASIO4All. This is a program that can switch the sample rate to reduce these glitches when recording live, also to speed up the delay of the recorded VSTI notes.
3. When I recorded in cubase I was having midi timing issues. When I recorded, the notes would program in cubase earlier than specified. I did not solve this issue totally but Jay Levitt has released a MidiTime Utility. His website isn't up so I had to email him. I had to download another program to install more input and output channels called MidiYoke. I thought I could use the MidiTime Utility to specify what options I needed in order to have the best playback. These options are found in cubase. It includes moving a subfolder into the main directory.
4. I had a very terrible sounding guitar and I did not purchase EWQL Ministry of Rock at the time. I had to experiment using Daven Tesseract Guitar Vsti and FL Slayer. Decent' but free programs. Took some tweaking and a lot of forums to figure this out.
5. I had a very terrible sounding drum kit. I ended up using Stylus RMX's drum kit utility. Something new I learned. I just purchased Toontrack's Superior Drummer 2.0 for better quality videos.
6. Since I did record live, and did not sequence the notes, I had a very poor rhythm. I had to resequence some of the notes so that they would sound somewhat decent in cubase..
7. I ended up contracting a virus and was experience the "Blue Screen of Death." HUGE PAIN. Whenever I would play the piece in Cubase, Audacity, Windows Media Player, I tunes, I would experience this. I had to use MS Onelive and Hitman Pro to finally remove it. This virus is a pain. If you ever experience popups Hitman Pro is the way to Go.
8. I had to convert all my video recordings into the computer using Handbrake
9. I had issues with Sony Vegas 9.0 pro installation. Don't ask why.
10. I had to get the recordings working well in Sony. This means adjusting the videos, and syncing them to the soundtrack.
11. Since I recorded live, and tweaked the rhythm, the notes were playing too early or too late on the video. I had to use the frequency tool bar to get everything aligned properly. This is noticeable. However, this took a TON of time to do.
12. The Sony Vegas Pro Preview is LAME! It is impossible to do a video when the preview lags. I had to do this separately by hiding layers.
13. I had to do some investigation the best settings for YOUTUBE videos.
14. Other issues: The video has glitching images. Be aware of key notes because this can cause tracking. That is an error which I could not quite fix. The image quality of the melody is very poor. I used the Crop feature in Sony Vegas and I wanted to get a specific area on screen however this reduced its quality. There is strange image glitches between the melody. I have no idea why I couldn't fix this.
Now what? Video is up! Please check it out. New videos/compositions are possibly on the way. Oh yeah one more thing. I am considering buying a new computer to aid my musical endevors but unsure to determine if I want to get a Lenovo Thinkpad or a HP Elitebook. I want to Windows 7 but I don't think the programs would be compatible. However Windows 7 supports more Ram. Also it is noted that when getting new harddrives be aware of your RPMS if it is 5200 it is no good. You will experience slowdowns. Find a 7200 or more. I ended up making this mistake and I think that is what is causing problems.
That's some pretty cool mixing O_O Nice melody as well :)
