Wow. Finally a new video is up. This was a 4 week process for several reasons. I must admit I am quite happy with the results. Here is some information regarding the development of the video and the reason why it took so long.

1. I wanted to create a interesting piece utilizing the idea of recording several instruments live. I had intentions of utilizing this concept in future videos. However, since the process is so long and cumbersome, I am not sure if I will continue doing this. In fact I honestly did not intend to score this piece, however since I had no idea how to develop the music I ended up scoring the piece by hand cause I wanted this idea to work well.
2. I had several problems with my hardware. The VSTIS that I recorded in cubase when I recorded live did not sit well with the hardware. It was causing crack snackle pops and was delaying the sound of the recorded notes. I finally found a decent work around using ASIO4All. This is a program that can switch the sample rate to reduce these glitches when recording live, also to speed up the delay of the recorded VSTI notes.
3. When I recorded in cubase I was having midi timing issues. When I recorded, the notes would program in cubase earlier than specified. I did not solve this issue totally but Jay Levitt has released a MidiTime Utility. His website isn't up so I had to email him. I had to download another program to install more input and output channels called MidiYoke. I thought I could use the MidiTime Utility to specify what options I needed in order to have the best playback. These options are found in cubase. It includes moving a subfolder into the main directory.
4. I had a very terrible sounding guitar and I did not purchase EWQL Ministry of Rock at the time. I had to experiment using Daven Tesseract Guitar Vsti and FL Slayer. Decent' but free programs. Took some tweaking and a lot of forums to figure this out.
5. I had a very terrible sounding drum kit. I ended up using Stylus RMX's drum kit utility. Something new I learned. I just purchased Toontrack's Superior Drummer 2.0 for better quality videos.
6. Since I did record live, and did not sequence the notes, I had a very poor rhythm. I had to resequence some of the notes so that they would sound somewhat decent in cubase..
7. I ended up contracting a virus and was experience the "Blue Screen of Death." HUGE PAIN. Whenever I would play the piece in Cubase, Audacity, Windows Media Player, I tunes, I would experience this. I had to use MS Onelive and Hitman Pro to finally remove it. This virus is a pain. If you ever experience popups Hitman Pro is the way to Go.
8. I had to convert all my video recordings into the computer using Handbrake
9. I had issues with Sony Vegas 9.0 pro installation. Don't ask why.
10. I had to get the recordings working well in Sony. This means adjusting the videos, and syncing them to the soundtrack.
11. Since I recorded live, and tweaked the rhythm, the notes were playing too early or too late on the video. I had to use the frequency tool bar to get everything aligned properly. This is noticeable. However, this took a TON of time to do.
12. The Sony Vegas Pro Preview is LAME! It is impossible to do a video when the preview lags. I had to do this separately by hiding layers.
13. I had to do some investigation the best settings for YOUTUBE videos.
14. Other issues: The video has glitching images. Be aware of key notes because this can cause tracking. That is an error which I could not quite fix. The image quality of the melody is very poor. I used the Crop feature in Sony Vegas and I wanted to get a specific area on screen however this reduced its quality. There is strange image glitches between the melody. I have no idea why I couldn't fix this.

Now what? Video is up! Please check it out. New videos/compositions are possibly on the way. Oh yeah one more thing. I am considering buying a new computer to aid my musical endevors but unsure to determine if I want to get a Lenovo Thinkpad or a HP Elitebook. I want to Windows 7 but I don't think the programs would be compatible. However Windows 7 supports more Ram. Also it is noted that when getting new harddrives be aware of your RPMS if it is 5200 it is no good. You will experience slowdowns. Find a 7200 or more. I ended up making this mistake and I think that is what is causing problems.

  • Me gusta!! BRAVO!

  • Nice info, It makes you sound like you can definitely qualify as a sound director, expert in composition and sound, like K Kondo!

My condolences with the technical difficulties, I hope that it will subside.

Anyway, Nice piece you composed here. Wonderful harmony with the melody! Because it's played by hand, it reminds me of the music in Paper Mario (Recorded on a keyboard) mixed with Nobuo Uematsu. =p The harmony also acts as a Bass.

It's wonderful to see you back, Travis! Keep pursuing!

  • What program did u use

  • Damn, you don't need a band if that's the case lol.

  • @ComposerSyterious Thank you Hill, VERY COOL!! Love Isis :O)

  • @MarkoRuzinOfficial I don't have hte NI instruments or synth1, but I will definitely give those a look through. I have spent a lot on music software. I want ot upgrade to windows 7 but I don't know if my software would transfer. It is too bad that the software has a limited amount of downloads. I would have liked to continue to use them in the distant future.

  • @MarkoRuzinOfficial Why was this flagged? I thought I got a comment from you but I am not sure why it didn't show up in the comments box. I actually have EWQL symphonic orchestra, and symphonic choir, and I just bought the ministry of music guitar set. I also have omnisphere but I was having difficulties with sound. Whenever I would record live I would get this cracking sound. I think it is hardware related issues, most likely problems with the sampling rate. It must eat a lot of memory.

  • @ComposerSyterious Thanks for the comment Hill. Well, if people do visit my videos, I can definitely tell you I have experience with solving issues when it relates to computer related sound issues. In my next video I will assume the normal position of an orchestra so stay tuned.
