Basically what happened is that Dan said in an interview that at a point he relied on alcohol to have fun and feel interesting then realized this and stopped, but people took it to mean he admitted to being an alcoholic which just doesn't seem to be true. If the star playing Harry Potter were an alcoholic it would get out very easily and be a huge deal. All it sounds like to me is what any typical 20 something college kid does- thinks drinking is the key to fun, then eventually gets over it.
