Mary Shelley's mother, Mary Wollstonecraft, was a pioneering feminist, so it's not surprising that "Frankenstein" has quite a bit to say about women and society. But you won't hear Shelley's feminist message from the women in "Frankenstein." No, you'll find it in the monster himself.

Another feminist symbol could be the subplot involving the monster's Bride. The monster orders Victor to create him a mate so he can feel as though he has a place in society. However Victor can't go through with it. Maybe Shelley meant this as a means of saying women shouldn't be used by men to gain status.
