Here is a definitive answer to the COLOSSIANS 1:20 verse that they like to use so much to support their Universalism...

COLOSSIANS 1:20 says this:
"..and through Him to reconcile all things whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of His Cross."

Firstly,
Look at EPHESIANS 1:10...
"as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in Him, things in heaven and things on earth"...

Now, that very same verse, considering the ENTIRE CONTEXT of EPHESIANS 1:3-14 (and the context is about those people/things that are "ELECTED/CHOSEN" in Christ, verses 4-5), shows that the verse can also be read like this...

"as a plan...to unite all things [THAT ARE] in Him, [WHETHER THOSE] things [BE PRESENTLY] in heaven or on earth"

Who/what are "in Christ/Him"??
Scripture delcares that only "the elect" are "in Him" or "belong to Him":

MATTHEW 24:31
"And he will send out his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather HIS ELECT from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other."

LUKE 18:7
"And will not God give justice to HIS ELECT, who cry to him day and night?"

ROMANS 8:33
"Who shall bring any charge against GOD'S ELECT? It is God who justifies."

ROMANS 11:7
"What then? Israel failed to obtain what it was seeking. THE ELECT obtained it, but the rest were hardened"

1TIMOTHY 5:21
"In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus and of the ELECT ANGELS"

2TIMOTHY 2:10
"Therefore I endure everything for the sake of THE ELECT, that they also may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus"

TITUS 1:1
"Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, for the sake of the faith of GOD'S ELECT and their knowledge of the truth"

Secondly...
Lets looks at COLOSSIANS 1:20...

"..and through Him to reconcile all things whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of His Cross."

Notice the similarity between this and EPHESIANS 1:10 (mentioning a uniting/reconciling of things "in heaven or on earth")...

To link COLOSSIANS 1:20 with what EPHESIANS 1:10 says, it can therefore be read like this...

"..and through Him to reconcile [OR UNITE] all things [THAT ARE IN HIM - aka, the elect], whether [THEY BE PRESENTLY] on earth on in heaven, making peace by the blood of His Cross"

  • L Rat Smith is a heretic. He mixed truth with error. I exposed his "determinism" theory which states we don't have free will.

  • @enthralledbylight

Friend, our will is not "free". Our will is enslaved to sin - as Martin Luther said, its in "bondage" to sin - The Lord Jesus said "whoever commits sin is a slave to sin".

In fact - the will is chained to the human nature, and only wills that which is in accordance with our nature - and if the human nature is "evil" (as Scripture says), then the will is evil aswell.

I would say "We have no GOOD will".

  • @doctorh2005 You are misunderstanding what I mean by free will. I mean the capacity to choose. I am well aware we are in bondage from the get and we are in dire need of a Savior, Jesus Christ. That wasn't my point. I am sure you understand more clearly now. I don't lift up any man (martin luther) or denomination I hold to the Bible and the Bible alone.

Anyway, L. Ray Smith is a heretic who mixes truth with error. The concoction of devils.

L Ray Smith is a universalist heretic. I've come across him before. He's a nutcase.

/// And how does REV 5:9 fit into your belief system? ///

    From the language itself.

REVELATION 5:9 says "for You were slain, and by Your blood You ransomed people for God FROM every tribe and [FROM every] language and [FROM every] people and [FROM every] nation"

This correlates to the Doctrine of "Limited Atonement" - Christ paid for in full NOT for the sins every single human being, but only for those who put their trust in Him alone.

He ransomed people "FROM" every nation.

And how does REV 5:9 fit into your belief system? I will show you how this is westernized... expecially when quoting from the book of Rev. So.. go ahead and explain. I don't make sense because it is westernized for you by many writers who don't understand how Jews really understand THIS book. I should get back to your main point, though, which is very faulty.
