I agree...there is some kind of an emotional detachment with trad grip that lacks with matched. But people are saying one grip sounds more musical than the other....it's just wrong and illogical.

  • @cdrumh "A good drummer should be proficient with both."

Incorrect. A good drummer should be able to just play music, regardless of what grip they use. There are amazing players that play matched and some trad. There is no requirement to use BOTH. It's purely a personal decision and both are equally valid grips.

  • Dont let anyone tell you one grip is better than the other. A good drummer should be proficient with both.

  • GREAT playing!Traditional grip sounds lot better, than matched grip, when play jazz.Matched grip players from the past are Cozy Cole and Max Roach(he change grip to matched in the 70-th),Roy Haynes,Jack de Johnette,Billy Cobham and Bill Stewart now.In Europe everybody play matched, because matched is best grip to play everything. But traditional grip sounds........well,more musical.

  • That ride sounds awesome!!..... Paiste!!!

  • Thank you Ian!!!
