U.S. Senator Jeff Bingaman highlights some key elements of the short-term unemployment insurance (UI) extension package passed out of the Senate and later signed into law in this week's update. In addition to containing UI extension, the law extends COBRA (health care) coverage and includes a temporary fix for Medicare doctor reimbursement.

Bingaman also touches on the Keep Our Educators Working Act and the Taxpayers Bill of Rights, two pieces of legislation he co-sponsored and introduced this week, which aim to maintain public school instruction and protect taxpayers.
