I think the germans called it "the flying coffin" because it was quite easy to take out the gun turrets above, frontwards & below & thereby kill the gunners

I live here in Phoenix and have been out to see the B-17 several times. It is in great shape. I took my father to see her last this week while he was in town from Cleveland. We are really impressed with the progress on "Maid in the Shade," the restored B-25- get her up and flying soon!

My husband flew as a navigator in B-17 in World war II.Brought back many memories
