This video was taken over **a year ago**-- August 10, 2009.. just found it on my computer and decided to post it. This piece is not so well known, but nonetheless beautiful! The focus of this study is melodic shaping and voicing, as stated in the RCM books...
This study is special to me. I played it on my grade 8 exam last year... I was panicking after I butchered my scales on the exam, when I played this it really calmed me down!

I will record new videos once I find a new camera and mics... soon I hope. Enjoy, and sorry about the video quality!
Comments are welcome as always-- I may relearn this study one day, it taught me so much

  • My only question is why so heavy on the damper pedal? Otherwise, I like the way you play it. (I have the music and there is no marking for pedaling). I am not saying that the damper pedal can't be used at all with this piece. Just curious. Does your sheet music show pedaling?

  • @mmcrosbie Thanks for your comment! Good question... no, my score shows no pedal at all, my teacher and I worked on it together. I never thought about playing this without pedal, I think a piece like this definitely requires it, or it would sound dry. I think the pedal also enhances the melody, it is a lied after all... But I don't know, maybe if I played this piece now, I would pedal differently. It's a been a while since I played this

  • @thinkgreenlovepurple Notice, I did not ask you why you used the pedal. I asked why so heavy on the pedal? I think the acoustics in the room affect the sound too. (I don't mean to be critical, just suggesting perhaps a little less pedalling). Some of my piano uploads have poor acoustics, I have to admit. I used an amateur recorder in my living room at home years ago. I have resumed piano studies and am now using a Yamaha Digital piano, as it's easier to move than my big old heavy upright.

  • @mmcrosbie Oh sorry I misunderstood! It could be my recorder, or lack of recorder. I used a digital camera to record this one, and I probably should not have placed the camera on the piano. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and suggestions, I'll consider them when I play this piece again... :)

  • I have never heard of this piece, but I thoroughly enjoyed the it after listening your performance. It is really beautiful! And I thought your playing was great too...

  • @OldRabit Thank you!
