Shape Shifting Cat

Just toying with Adobe After Effects. The morph effect was done by just using After Effects masking tool to rotoscope the cat and the slippers, then letting it interpolate the mask shape in between. That part was simple enough. Figuring out exactly how to fade between the slippers, cat, and a blank slate at the right times to avoid any shadow problems was the hard part.

Of course it bugs me that the morph is completely 2D but morphing the 3D cat, but until I get into 3D modeling this will be the best I can hope for.

Also, the original video was shot and edited completely stationary. The shaky, hand-held look was created by just panning the 640x480 movie at 320x240 with After Effect's "wiggler".

Heh. Yeah. Some people on YouTube seem to like to post CGI stuff and try to convince people that it's real, but I never thought that seemed like any fun.

Who cares if something is fake as long as it looks cool! So lets admit that it's fake and talk about how it's done! Learning how to make the videos is the real cool part.

Or at least, being a first-generation Pokemon player who never ventured further, Ditto is the logical answer according to my knowledge.

Since there are roughly 5 billion Pokemon now there might be a better answer. Curse my inability to keep up with the Pokemon scene! Aaagh! I'm not cool anymore!
