lots of cold steels stuff is just goofy
they have decent aus 8! i have a kobun for testing purposes and it gets an edge nice but starting with shaving sharp! doing 50 cardboard cuts and 20 wood cuts its far from shaving sharp but still cuts paper !
as far as aus 8 go with SOG ! they cryo treat the blade ! best aus 8 you can buy

Yea look at the Cold Steel Voyager! The largest one (Cutlerylover has a review up) is not even a knife anymore, it is more like a folding sword, or even the Rajah is freakin 14" long!

I agree with your choice in size for folders. In my mind, if you are gonna get a big folder, larger than I say 4 inches max, then you might as well get a fixed blade, be better anyway for that.
Plus, I think that those big whompin folders just look a bit goofy, as the handle has to get too large and it makes it look, I dunno, Steve Ircle-ish.
As for the wear on the blade, I dont mind it too much, I think it adds character, that is if you are going to be using it and not for collection.

Agree, some of the larger folders are just ridiculous to carry around. Some of the cold steel models in particular.
