ALWAYS-- chapter 4.

Nick Jonas had been driving around Toluca Lake, California when he heard her voice jump through his speakers. Shivers ran up his spine with every word she spoke. He licked his lips, hearing her speak so passionately about her music. That had always been her most attractive feature in his eyes. Her passion. Her dedication. Her drive. The way she put her heart and soul into every note she sang and every word she wrote. Nick smiled, feeling immensely proud of how far she had come in the music industry. He continued to smile until he heard her say the one word which shattered his heart into countless pieces: Liam.

It wasn't because Nick disliked Liam. In fact it was the exact opposite. Nick genuinely liked Liam. And for that reason, he also hated him.

"Uh, as for inspiration, I mean a lot of it obviously came from Liam. Infact today is our one year anniversary!" he heard her say through the airwaves. Nick stopped the car and inhaled a sharp breath. Had it really been a year? He felt the hole in his heart deepen, thinking back to easier times.

Nick and Miley walked side by side, smiling despite the photographers dying to get good shots of them together. Nick was treating Miley to lunch at one of their favorite places, The Village Idiot. Ofcourse every blog and rag magazine had sent their finest to capture "Nick and Miley's reunion!" Nick didn't understand why it was such a big deal. They were best friends. Nothing more. Sadly.

They made their way into the restaurant and sat at a booth towards the back. "That was insane!" Miley said, "Did you see the way they were looking at us? It was like they've never seen two buds hanging out before." Nick laughed and responded, "Yeah I know. I mean, it's not like this is anything special. Just two friends.. hanging out." He sighed, but she didn't notice. "BEST friends." She corrected with a smile, brushing her fingers through Nick's hair. He blushed. She laughed.

"Miles, there is a specific reason I wanted to take you out to lunch today.." Nick began. "Uh oh! What is it?" Miley asked, faking a concerned voice. Nick smiled, "Well as you know we've been working on our new album and there's this one song I wrote.. about you.. us.. me and you.. together." He stuttered, this was not as smooth as he had hoped it would be. "And you want me to sing it with you?" She asked, freakishly reading Nick's mind. She always had a way of knowing what was going on in his head. Nick nodded and added, "Yeah exactly! And I was hoping you would finish writing it with me too.. It's pretty rough and I want to make it special." Miley leaned across the table and kissed Nick on the cheek. "I'd be honored." She said.

Nick snapped out of his trance and wiped a tear from his eye. "I miss you, MC." He whispered to himself as he put his car back into drive and sped down the street.
