A newly written love song inspired by my daughter

Lyrics
-------------------------

There you lay
No words to say
Transformation in me

Ocean
Of emotion
Devotion so new

In you life some things will turn out fine
But when it all seems unkind
You will be safe in my arms

Wasn't sure
Before
If I'm ready for you

Scared I'd make
Big mistake
Aggravate you

In your days some things will go your way
But when it all seems to betray
You will be safe in my arms

Lady I've got your number
I know you've got mine
Hand in hand we'll make our way through time

Strongest fears
Disappear
(when I) Held you near me

In my life things have gone just fine
But nothing more than you
In your days some things will go your way
But when it all seems to slip away
You will be safe
You will be safe in my arms

  • You will be safe in my arms - nice chord that one.

That slightly jazz-pop chord aside, in general, on the topic of unexpected changes, you are a bit of a master of what I like to call the "option B" change, which means you are able to retain a traditional, old time feel to your melodies while also creating subtle and unpredictable, aesthetically pleasing variations on aspects of them, regularly enough for them to sound like they have been "found" but preventing them from being boring.

  • If I ever put together an album and need a comment on the jacket, this is going to be it.

    Thanks Curtis.

  • ahh love the use of 3/4 time signature. this song has a lot of potential. i hear a lot of space for strings, horns and harmonies..

  • Completely agree a nice cello line would bridge the verse and chorus (which switches to 4/4) nicely. I would have done a redo, but I don't think that a guitar approximates the strings that I hear well enough.

    Thanks for the comment, Todd.

  • This is very 'Ben and Jason', I like it! If you haven't heard them PLEASE check them out, they're a wonderful duo from the turn of the millenium, lots of strings and freshly strung acoustic guitar. Check out anything on 'Emoticons'.

  • Thanks for stopping by, Alex. I will make a point to check them out.
