Ann Peebles (born April 27, 1947) is a singer and songwriter, best known for her Memphis soul albums of the 1970s on the Hi Records label. Two of her better known songs are "I'm Gonna Tear Your Playhouse Down" and "I Can't Stand the Rain", popularised by cover versions by Paul Young and Eruption respectively. "I Can't Stand the Rain" was written by her husband, Don Bryant, former radio broadcaster Bernard "Bernie" Miller.

  • my favorite pure brown cane sugarlicious sweet soulster

  • I've seen her a few times on stage and she is fabulous... No direspect to Paul Young, but before him I loved Graham Parker & the Rumour's version of I'm Gonna Tear Your Playhouse Down...

But props to Ann Peebles because not only does she sing and belongs to the great in her category, but she also wrote or co-wrote many of her hits... That's no small feat!
