AFTER A CENTURY OF CRUDE, IT'S TIME TO REFINE OUR VISION: The 20th Century can be viewed through any of the three great trends of our time — economic growth, social progress, and environmental damage. But a fourth trend — growing energy use —underlies each of these, literally fueling the incredible journey we've been on in the last 100 years. And changes in the landscape of energy may well trigger a whole new journey for humanity. The legendary actor and narrator Peter Coyote tells the story of our oil journey.

This is a customizable presentation *you* can use to tell your own journey and to invite new people to join the larger conversation.

    Thank-you Peter, Excellent Job !

I'm a Tiny houser and I love it.

I'm working now to get my solar electric system. I don't use petroleum in my home. I'm vegan.

I expect a uni-rail transportation system to replace the inferior fossil fueled autos & freeways. This rail system would basically go where ever the phone lines go. Everything would move via this quiet, solar powered system that goes to everyones home. EZ

I expect happiness, tree replanting, and a reduction in dependence on oil.

When people get desperate they elect radicals who demonize others and MBB take war on them. Nuclear war!

I tend to agree, but, given human nature, there will be major land-rape to get unconventional oil, and that's depressing. Wind turbines all over the place are also a downer. Nature is too full of scars.

Peak oil denial is more dangerous than global warming denial. We have a finite amount of CO2 to put into the atmosphere. Once the hydrocarbons are gone (EROEI falls below one), the ocean system will continue pulling CO2 out of the atmosphere and trees will photosynthesize it and release oxygen. Energy depletion actually is the cure to global warming, but also the end of society as we know it today. You win some, you lose some.

You might want to study EROEI, energy returned on energy invested, how much energy does it take to produce the product vs how much energy this product produces.
