Can you guys have a little respect for my culture and my country... This clearly means a lot to Dominicans and many others as well, and if you aren't going to respect what amazing contributions and sacrifices the Mirabal sisters and their family has done then I pray that maybe you'll someday wake up and realize how beautiful the history of 'The Mariposas' and have some respect for others and yourself.

These young 'ladies, (they were mother's, wives), stood up to dictator Rafael Trujillo.

Trujillo's thugs stopped the car as they were driving home after visit with husband, in jail. These cowardly 'thugs', enforcers of terror, hired hoods or whatever noun that simply can't b defined by me.

Note: I am American, heritage of European background. This is not about the Dominican Republic. Difficult to define. It is of mankind, simple rights that is all they wanted!

I came here because 2 days ago I watched a movie about the Mirabal sisters. It is called, "In The Time Of The Butterflies", on HBO, starring Salma Hayak and Edward James Olmos. I knew nothing about the sisters or Dominican history till I saw the things that happened there. I cried at the end to see the beautiful sisters murdered so horribly! Now Nov. 25 will be a special date I'll always remember!
