Sorry about the bad editing. I decided to go to a Karate Tournament (Gary Alexanders) to expose five ancestor fist to the public.
I wore a karate Gi in the self defense portion ot comply with the rules Gary Alexander himself told us it was okay to do two man forms as self defense. the ring judge (as usual he didn't like kung fu and decided to chage rule son the spur of the moment. decided to let us finish the form and then told us we had to do takedowns. I was very embarassed as I had to takedowns on Grandmaster Lim, which embarassing. If you watch me I'm trying not to do them to fast or abrupt and helping him back up. The title went to a blue bet who did soem loud shouting and some simple takedowns. I don't kia in my techniques because of the fluid technique and breathing. A kiai would upset the flow. It seems everytime kung fu people go to Karate tournaments they always seem to run into a judge who simply doesn't like them and wants them to leave. I'm an ex-karate man myself and I remember the propaganda lots of instructors used to give us about how Kung Fu was useless, no power etc. Truth is, Kung Fu is about power, speed, focus, flow and coordination of all mental and physical assets. I am one of the few folks fully certified at Black sash level by Bonifacio Lim, and one of the only non orientals teaching it in this country, right now only to private students. I'd actually like to do more to spread Five Ancestor Fist and Southern Style Kung Fu (Five Animals as well as Five Ancestors) to the American martial arts scene. Anyone interested in Seminars contact me.
