This is a video tutorial of how to create a pumping bass sound by using side chain compression in Reason 6.
I hope you get inspired by it, my Friends! =)
It is demonstrated in Reason 6 software, but the principles can be applied in most music production software.

@mordsgaudimachen Yeah, there is a difference. I prefer to use a medium release on the kick drum so that it will not drown the bass completely. 909 kick works best I think.
As for the notes. For the Kick I of course program a 4/4 sequence first with 1/8th notes. Then for the bass I first programmed them to be 1/8th notes in between the kicks (no overlaps), but then I extended the beginning of the bass notes with 1/16th note so that each bass note starts exactly 1/16th note after the kicks.

Hey good video :) have you noticed any difference on the side chaining whether you use a short snappy kick like a 909 vs something with a long release like an 808? And what kind of midi notes did you use? whole notes which pump due to sidechaining, or 1/8th or what? Yours sounds better than my attempts at sidechaining... maybe my settings are not quite right
