"Yusei Oji," aka "Starman"
When aliens from the barren rock planet Krankor attack Earth, only the curiously costumed Prince of Space "(Wally the shoeshine boy in disguise) and his trusty exhaust-spewing rocketship can save the world -- or at least Japan -- from total conquest by the evil Phantom and his beak-nosed minions. Since conventional space weapons cannot harm the spry Prince of Space, the Phantom engages in a kidnapping scheme involving a cadre of international scientists.
Prince of Space is available on DVD from Dark Sky Films. www.darkskyfilms.com

I wish Dark Sky Films could have released this film in 2.35:1. The DVD is heavily cropped on all sides.

Poor Sonny Chiba! Well you have to start somewhere!
This is a classic turkey that I first saw as a child in the 60's. It's so bad it's endearing.
This one's right up there with the Ken Utsui "Starman" serials (Super Giant), so bad they're good!
The never made sequel:" Santa Claus and the Martians meet the Krankorians" - the mind boggles.

If you pause at about 2:06, you'll see that the "laser effects" don't appear to be coming out of the end of the guns.
