Confession - Staring

There is so much staring going on, I've donned a hijab to be less conspicuous, a thing I would have never thought I'd do. It's a shame it's done not out of love for Islam but as a protective mechanism.

I hate people that stare.

I for one, never stare!

I believe too that there are many people here that have the mentality background of staring.

I do get stares, tons of them, from different nationalities. Don't know why? It could be because.. Although I'm a 100% Emirati, I'm fair-skinned, maybe that's whats causing the stares!

FananoTM, it's good to hear even though you're totally covered AND Emirati, YOU get stared at TOO. Makes me feel not so alone. I say let's make buttons that say "WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU LOOKIN' AT!?"

I understand you. I used to get stares all the time from non-Emirati, especially non-European expats. I am muslim. I wear hijab. I dress very modestly. Whenever I got stared at I used look at the man with a stern look in my face, one eyebrow raised. Usually this was enough to deter them. But I agree it is very very very disturbing. Permanent solution? I moved back to my country where noone looks at me for more than 1 second :-)

The whole idea of the hijab is to curb staring. men are dogs. Fact. And so the idea is a man gets a decent upbringing will avert their eyes, and a woman in hijab will be less of a "check her out" object. It makes a woman less of an object. That being said, I think you being a westerner wearing the hijab would make you more stare-able. That being said, a million indian sex starved workers = stare at everyone.

@Mnawrah Not wearing a hijab while professing Islam = wrong. Simple. It is against ALL 4 schools of Islamic law and should be punishable by DEATH. So your friends are, as far as sins go, akin to prostitutes.

A protective mechanism? Weird. You know, as a woman, even people who stare can be in HUGE trouble in the UAE if you report them. Just tell the security guy wherever you are. In other issues, the hijab isnt a purely Islamic thing. When did you ever see a depiction of the Virgin Mary without her head covered? Or nuns?
