I recorded this smooth jazz sax song on my train ride to the Frankfurt Musikmesse yesterday. Besides the music, this video also demonstrates the awesome portability of the Pico. You can make music anywhere, just take your laptop out on the train, on the plane, in a restaurant, ... and start playing music with headphones!

I found the chords and melodic theme a few days ago but the rest of this recording is pure improvisation. The sax sound comes for the amazing free Silverwood v2 ensemble for Reaktor, I used some tube-warming and saturation through an inline audio unit effect to get that warm and round feel.

  • Do you get stopped at security for that thing?

  • @BoxCubeSquare nope, no problems at all

  • Can it do vibrato at all? Or slides, subtle dynamics, aside from volume? Then I would be interested in getting one. Otherwise I don't really see that it sounds remarkably different from a keyboard synth. I realize that it has other features that people might like though. Nice tune by the way.

  • @metemi of course, each key moves independently and allows you to tie three parameters to each axis of the key (up-down, left-right, in-out), it's up to you how to tie that up to performance parameters

  • @gbevin Thanks, what did you tie it to? I'd suggest to have a listen to the sax patches for reaktor from Harm Visser They sound really really good.

  • @nutelina I suppose that you refer to the strum question you had before by 'what did you tie it to'? If that's the case, I tied the palm muted up and down strums to two dedicated percussion keys where the velocity is used for the speed of the strum, I use the upper 6 percussion keys for the individual strings

  • @nutelina I'll check those sax patches out, thanks!

  • This made me happy..thanks!

  • 4:15, don't fucking bother me! I'm playing the Eigenharp.

  • @gbevin - great video! I tried loading up Silverwood in Reaktor but I cannot get a sound - the midi indicator is moving which tells me it is getting a MIDI signal but I can't hear anything. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

  • People on that airplane didn't think you were activating a bomb?

  • @gbevin Sorry no I meant the the sax patch! But interesting anwser nonetheless!

  • Wanted one of these awesome little things for ages. Also I notice a clear advantage when traveling by plane, as they don't get as good a chance to smash it as if it was a guitar or similar.
