The film was made the 1930's.

The film was made in 1930's not the 1940's.

@mariahfu2014 its the 1940s what do you expect?

I guess it was a good performance but seriously, NO COLOR!

@busboysanalogy some curtains use to be made of asbestos because asbestos doesn't burn since its just a rock. most of the asbestos still around today was used for insulation.

Ruby Keeler couldn't hold a candle to Winifred Shaw - check the latter's version of The Lullaby of Broadway. But then Winifred wasn't married to Al Jolson. 'Twas ever thus.

There is a lot going on in this video, but I can't get over her little tap number near the beginning. It's insane how much her feet are moving. I really need to take up tap.

But thats the charm of it! This movie is so ridiculous, over the top and doesn't take itself seriously. Ruby Keeler is so earnest - and yet, so damn bad. Someone once said of her - "she makes it all look so difficult".
Its a shame you don't like it. This movie makes me laugh every time (and I have probably seen it 20x).

Am I the only person who really didn't like this movie... I don't care how old this is, the plot makes no sense and Peggy couldn't act...

@hydropolite Oh you're right of course. At the risk of sounding like an old grump- and I recognize that many things now are better thanks to social services, medical advances and the like- but what I (rarely) see on television that passes for culture just makes me weep. I see hordes of talentless nobodies pumped up by media to people who would not and can not recognize real talent and class. Its really depressing if I dwell on it. Thanks goodness for sites like this- keeps it all alive.
