This is basically what rhodium plating your jewelry looks like. There are a few essential steps.

1. The piece (an engagement ring, for example) should be buffed to a high shine. This is akin to painting a layer of primer before you paint in that it allows the rhodium to take to the ring.

2. The piece needs to be thoroughly cleaned, typically done in an ultrasonic cleaner. All the polishing compound must be removed.

3. It is a good idea to steam off the ring before giving a final look-over to make sure you got all the polishing compound off.

4. Typically, I have found that many jewelers prefer to use a current of around 4 volts. The fourth step is to electro-clean the piece. This is the first step that you see taken in this video. After electro-cleaning, dip the piece in water to rinse off the solution.

5. Finally, you arrive at the actual rhodium plating. For illustrative purposes, I have left the piece in solution a little longer than normal. The rhodium appears as a greenish solution. Notice the vigorous effervescence.

6. Like with the electro-cleaning, it's a good idea to rinse off any remainder rhodium solution.

7. The final step, not shown here, is a good steaming.

  • From what he says in step 4:

    1st is electrocleaning

    2nd is water

    3rd is rhodium

    4th is ???

  • @akira7799 In this video, I used distilled water to rinse after the rhodium. I currently work with a jeweler who uses a dilute pickle solution.

  • what are the second and the fourth glass susbstances? 1st is electrocleaning and 3rd is rhodium right?

  • Is there a way to do this if there's stones inside the band? Like a lot of rings now will have small turquoise within the band and no easy way to get them out.

  • Idk what you did but you suck for violating the terms of the service and cancelling the penguin video -___-
