This youth-produced film tells the story of a young woman who recently moved to the US from Iran, and her decision to continue wearing the hijab although no longer forced to do so.

hijab represents religion not culture.. no one should be forced to wear it and should stem from one's own decision in pleasing their creator.

@tigersforchrist- you need to fear ur true GOD and ask forgiveness. if islam was so bad n negative then how come so many of u lot christians, revert back to islam, becos they have done their research, read and study the quran n unlike your bible the quran doesn't say one thing then another chapter sumthing else, which is the reason y so many christians come to to islam. i was once a christians the answers i was looking for i found in islam. islam is more pure, more true and a true religion.

If you wear a hijab, wear it because you like the way it *looks*, because it makes you feel beautiful, confident and strong, because it encourages you to be yourself and stand your ground.

Do *not* wear it because you believe that only veiled women don't ask for rape; because that's the message you automatically approve of when wearing the hijab to 'represent a culture'.

It represents your culture, okay, but what is that culture's idea behind the hijab?

No matter how assertive or emanzipated muslim women are when they live in a country where they are *allowed* to be assertive and emanzipated, the hijab still represents a culture - and a specific part of that culture - that sees the devaluation and owning of women as a legitimate thing to do.

if it not worn proppa its not hijab, if ppl can see ur hair (and ur body form) then might as well not wear it, hijab means to dress modestly, not just cover the hair, if ppl can see hair is as tho ur not wearing a scarf

also, many different cultures share similar practices...for example, lots of americans appreciate a good pie, myself included (especiall hucklebery!). i think of a good pie as a part of my american culture. that doesn't mean that i think australians are being american if they like pie....pie can also be a part of australian culture if folks want it to be.

@aMiNaB3LLA: i can see why you're worried about mixing culture & religion. i would add that just because hejab is a part of some people's culture doesn't mean that sahar is saying that you are conforming to iranian culture OR that iranian culture can only mean wearing hejab....it's just how she is currently interpreting her culture, which could mean iranian culture, muslim culture, or the intersection of both.
