This octopus was returned safely to the ocean after this video was taken and swam away. Yes, it is on cutting board material, but it is a sample station on a commercial fishing boat in Alaska used to measure and weigh bycatch, not a restaurant (see the clipboard?). I thought it was fascinating the way they can move out of water and by the way it used its 8 appendages to survey its surroundings, choose a path, and move so I took this short video to share with interested people. An octopus can live for over half an hour out of water, especially in moist, cool conditions such as here, and they do so sometimes in the wild (see discussions at http://www.tonmo.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-102.html ), I appreciate most viewers concerns for this animal. Many octopuses are killed intentionally and accidentally in the fishing industry, but this one really was caught before it hit the ground and returned safely to sea.

  • Every single day, this is what getting out of bed is like.

  • I hate when people do this kind of bullshit to poor creatures. I just wanna see your balls on a cutting board, see if they swim away in the ocean.

  • They work much better than a mudshark though!!! Haha!!!

  • I study film, and I have studied horror. I've seen most horror films, including ones that have given people nightmares and fucked them up in general. I've never been affected by any of them. This however, scares the living shit out of me, and I don't know why...

  • give it water

  • ewwwww i had to look away 4 times XD

  • Reminds me of alien

  • must suck to be so floppy and not be able to hold your head up. it looks like it's about to just flop on the floor, which would have been kind of funny. you cut it off too soon

  • The video stops as it gets to the edge. It looks precariously like it's about to fall...
