warm start and rev to 3000 rpm

Finally looked at all the comments and thought I would settle the arguements .. this is a 12 valve engine.

  • This is, in fact, a FACTORY 12 valve engine.

  • besides the 24 vavle is wayyyy better! we had a 95 12 dually and now a 98 24 in a dually again and he 24 just has more raw power all around

  • @mikebvos 12 valve vs 24 valve is a matter of opinion as to which is better. A '95 12 valve should have the 160 hp pump vs the 24 valve 235 hp vp44 pump. The p7100 (12 valve pump) can be easily and relatively inexpensively tuned to reliably make 235 hp. The p7100 is a very strong pump where as dodge has a warehouse full of junk vp44 pumps that failed due to the lift pump failing. The 24 valve may have more factory power than the 12 valve but you are comparing 2 different generations of engines.

  • the 98's are 24 vavles bud

  • @mikebvos Dodge changed engines mid-year. Early '98s were 12 valves, late '98s were 24 valves.

  • "give it gas" haha. I know this is nit picky, but I always think its funny when people tell someone with a diesel truck to give it the gas. Or throttle for that matter, since diesels does have throttles. I still say it though.

  • Hey where did you get the exhaust? Is it an expandit or a diamond eye? Thanks

  • @kbailey43 if I were to run the p7100 pump out of fuel, I would get the same result as running a vp-44 out of fuel... The vp44 pump isn't a bad pump... Its that fucking lift pump which causes all the problems...

I have 330,000 KM on my vp-44 and its showed no signs of dammage. I replaced the lift pump with a full airdog kit, and a fuel pressure gauge.

I do agree with you though... you're comparing 2 different engines.

  • @kbailey43 98 12v's ARE THE BEST!! Mine's got 327k

  • @mikebvos early 98's are 12v.... 98.5 are 24's. do some research

  • @kbailey43 That's right...my '98 has a 12 valve Cummins.

  • you sir are lucky! 98 new inerior and that trusty 12 valve. and a dually. nice man! very nice!!

  • @kbailey43 You can get 300hp+ for FREE from a 180 or 215hp P7100. The P7100 can support enough fuel for 1,500hp withOUT nitrous. The VP44 is maxed a 600-800hp and is a touchy unreliable injection pump. The VP44 is junk compared to the P7100, they should even be in the same sentence. 24-valve vs. 12-valve engine (not pump), is a whole nother thing. There are good and bad attribute of both blocks, heads, and internals.

There are a lot of 53 block 24-valves that crack into half like walnuts.

  • I have a 96 1 ton 12 valve no chip and i pull aginst 24 valve 1 ton and i pull out of the gate every time the 12 valve has way more power. the 24 valve is to new and has to much computer shit on it

  • @mikebvos if a 24valve was better den why does all the big super stock diesel trucks run a 12 valve
