Hmmm. I was working as a waitress in a small bar (to earn money to continue going to college) when this song was current.
I have very fond memories of it. It really is a better song than it gets credit for being.

I wonder if he had tore up the guitar like that on his recordings, if people would have given him the crap that they did. For so long he was maligned as an artist but now, thanks to youtube, we can all see how truly talented he is.
