Jared Hood, treasurer of the Denver chapter of IVAW, reads his poem, "Machine Mechanism Parts". He joined the Army in 2003, first serving in a reserve MP detachment (5025th) out of Fort Carson, CO. Our mission was to train units preparing to deploy to Iraq in MP tasks and Internment operations. Taking part in this mission was really the beginning of my knowledge of the truth about this illegal war. Speaking to returning soldiers opened my eyes to the real meaning behind this war. At this time I started researching all of the facts and information that lead to the war and I have not stopped researching and speaking out since. I went on active duty in January 2004 and served on active duty at Fort Carson and at Camp Navistar until December 2004. In February of 2005 I transfered to the 220th MP CO COARNG and served until 2007 when I made the conscious and moral decision to go AWOL. Although I only had 1 year remaining under contract I could no longer support a Government that condones illegal occupations, racism, sexism and homophobia using my service as a soldier to carry out immoral acts. On my spare time I enjoy Anarchist sewing circles, loud obnoxious music, snowboarding skateboarding and Dirty Martinis.
This is the Warrior Writers open mic at the WeUsOur Artist Market and Gallery in Manitou Springs, on May 16, 2008.
