Security suite for the Mac OS protects against viruses, malware, spyware, network attacks/intrusions, and Web phishing. MSRP $50 for a one year license, $30 after that.

  • Great review, thanks, but you made one mistake. You said that you have to buy the application again after a year; that's incorrect. After you've bought the app the first year, an update - including filter updates and application updates - is $30 for the next year.

  • Where is that spelled out? I could find nothing on the upgrade process, so I figured you buy the package again after it expires.

  • @kronixusa lol believe me i know I work on computers all the time

  • @seferoo I got a trojan just from sending a response to a craigslist ad through Mail. Thankfully, I had an antivirus installed. So yeah, macs DO get viruses, and they're only gonna get more and more common.

  • @seferoo

Yes, they do. There are fewer viruses for Mac OS rather than Windows OS simply because the majority of the PCs that are used run Windows OS, so it is most profitable to target Windows.

However, that doesn't mean that Macs can't get viruses. There already are some, plus malware for Macs.

Another reason to get virus protection is Macs often act as carriers for Windows viruses. So you can infect other PCs running Windows OS with files from your Mac OS.

  • @seferoo that's true, we can't get traditional windows viruses, but we can still get into some trouble if we get onto websites that have been hacked and if Safari doesn't catch the Phishing going on the webpage. But really, a piece of software like this is mainly recommended for a house hold with lots of people using it(ie kids or grandchildren since they like to do a lot of things on the web).

  • lol macs dont get viruses

  • @jdphil07 make sure to check your firewall and antiphishing settings first before uninstall. I'm using virusbarrier and never had any issue with facebook...or contact the tech support

  • Okay there is a serious issue with Intego Virus Barrier X6. Once downloaded and installed the program will not let you sign into facebook, ustream or blogtv accounts. I am not sure how this happens but i was unable to figure it out and uninstalled the trial version.

  • Hope you get this OK

I have posted stuff below about Virus Barrier X6 logs

Please read "Log files show..." before "part 2"

    Obviously !!!

  • part 2:

System file using a special archive format, that can not be decompressed (archive.pax.gz, test.tar, wilogo_gif.uu, dna_small_gif.uu, etc)

( You can add .ott and .dat , .otp, .ots .bau files to that list!)

-- File considered by the System like an archive, but isn't (ex : file created under Mac OS 9 without any file extension, whose HFS attributes were lost during its last copy.)

-- Default archive timeout reached by a huge archive. (See "Archives" tab under "Scan Settings" button.

  • Log files show lots of files not checked completely . Not reassuring, and not a response (from Intego - I asked for help) I really understood! They didn't answer further questions either :(

Here's the list, continues in next reply:

-- Archive protected by a password. (which VirusBarrier does not have)

    -- Uncompleted downloaded file

-- Disk image requiring a license validation.

    - Corrupted file
