The XPS 630 is a gaming desktop meant to pack a lot of power into a smaller chassis. Granted, smaller is a relative term—it's smaller compared to the XPS 720: the XPS 630 has a starting weight of about 39 pounds compared to almost 48 pounds for its larger cousin.
The goal behind the XPS 630 was to provide great performance and expandability at a reasonable price point. By popular demand, the XPS 630 utilizes a motherboard based on the popular ATX form factor.
It's based on a Dell implementation of NVIDIA's 650i chipset, is the first OEM system to support NVIDIA's new Enthusiast System Architecture (ESA) and all units will come with a 750W power supply.
It also supports Intel processors (initially we'll support the quad-core Q6600 processor and the and Core 2 Extreme QX 6850, with more coming soon) and several graphics card options from both ATI and NVIDIA. We'll offer certain dual graphics card options in Crossfire mode or SLI mode, depending on whether you prefer ATI or NVIDIA.
In terms of memory, we also support Corsair DDR2 Dominator 800MHz Enhanced Performance Profile (EPP) modules that can be overclocked to1066MHz.
For folks that want to take performance a step further, you will have the opportunity to overclock the parts of the system through the system BIOS and software like NVIDIA's nTune application, much like the XPS 720 today. Unlike the XPS 720, however, we will not ship the XPS 630 overclocked from the factory. Because there's a lot more to discuss on that front, we'll blog about overclocking soon. And look for an overclocking vlog in the not-too-distant future.
Lee Kinder from the XPS Desktop Team talks about the system overall. He also discusses design elements, talks specs, hardware and OS options, overclocking and more.

  • What CPU cooler is that?

  • In my opion the Dell XPS/Alienware are way too expensive for what u get.

For example the Alienware ALX, goes for 2399,- in euro's (Netherlands)

I can build the same for 1000 euro's less. So basicly u pay 1000,- for the fancy case and the fact Dell assembles it for u. And to be honost, the case isn't even that good.

My opion, build it yourself, and u save alot of money that can be used for better components.

  • Okay this is probably a really dumb question. I own a 630i and I'm curious about something because I can't seem to find a definitive answer anywhere..

    Does the 630i have PCI-Express 1 or 2?

  • i have this box, but i have a question.

i have a nvidia graphics card at the moment. would i be able to replace the nvidia with an ATI on the spot?

  • GTX 260+ fixes all problems but both gpu brands are great.

  • (don't chew me out for askin)I don't game much at all.But will this Tower work with something like abelton live?or protools?looks to have some power to it!I could use that!

  • i'd choose ATI Because it has Avivo, Nvidia's just make the color dull, and the quality crappy and jagged, also it causes smugy pixels. ATI gives you a fully clear desktop.

  • it's probablly not lag your thinking of, but low frame rate. i have the same computer specs as you. the xps 630 should handle any game no problem

  • go with ATI radeon

  • hi there im curently on a e machines vista with a onboard nvidia geforce 6100 and to say the least i hate it I cant even go on sims without spending an hour creating a single person or play jedi academy without it laging yah i know i got some pretty lame games but only because of my video card now ive decided to save up for a new computer and im looking at a dell xps 630 not a xps 630i i was wondering would it lag any games such as cod 4 or wow
