Roll over writer's block with Writer's Dice! These are dice for writers, storytellers and gamers! In addition to the normal 1-6 pips, these dice are etched with six words packed with meaning: BUT, SO, AND, AS, OR, IF. Use them as you plot your next novel. Roll them into your role-playing games. Gift them to your gaming buddies.
The Details
In the photos above, you can see some of the prototypes. These are 19mm acrylic dice, a little larger than your average dice with a satisfying heft to their roll. They even have all your regular 1-6 pips so you can roll them like normal dice, too. These are great gifts for writers, creatives and gamers.
What You Get
For every $5 you pledge, you'll get one die. Everyone who gets two or more dice will also get a PDF packet containing a new game using Writer's Dice and a guide for using Writer's Dice in existing games. Shipping is included in that cost and there is no extra charge for international shipping.
Why I'm Doing This
I've designed a few storytelling games already, including Happy Birthday, Robot! and Do: Pilgrims of the Flying Temple. Both "game-ify" language by using dice rolls or other game mechanics to create constraints on how players tell an ongoing story. It's a cute little niche I want to keep on carving out. This time, with Writer's Dice!
What We Get
The Kickstarter goal will cover an initial small production run for the dice. If it's wildly successful, we might be able to get a large enough print run that the dice could find there way into hobby stores, game stores and bookstores. Who knows? For now, it's a fun experiment and a cool tool just in time for NaNoWriMo.
