Well I found out about this screen recorder called "glc". It's GNU/Linux's answer to Fraps. The performance is great, you start it, and you can't notice any lag. I even tried to capture the video at 60 fps rather than the default 30 fps and the video plays like 60 fps with no dropped frames and lag at all. And it even captures sound straight off Minecraft without me having to do a complicated sound setup.

Here's the page where I found it: http://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/glc.html

Oh and the download link in that page is broken. So I compiled the program from here: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=16946

  • Hi there, LinuxKDE.

I'm currently trying to get GLC running on my Ubuntu distro. I've compiled it and have it running but when I attempt to capture with glc-capture java -jar minecraft.jar I don't seem to get any results.

What's the command you use and where do the results show up? I haev a glc-record folder in /home but it remains empty.

    Thanks in advance

  • @TheFoulest You have to press Shift-F8 while Minecraft is running.

  • @TheFoulest Also the results get saved as something like "java-23451.glc" or something, and you'll have to convert it to a useable format. There's a tutorial link in the description.

  • I just got glc working on my box, I love it to death and I only recorded two videos.

  • PS: and NO I DO NOT maximize minecraft, maximizing minecraft is stupid and pointless and just decreases fps by 5-30

  • How to get past 20 FPS on Linux?! My computer can handle 80 FPS and it goes 1-24 FPS with Optfine and yes I have 1 GB RAM computer w/ Intel GMA (not sure what model) and 2 CPUs @ 1.67 GHz

  • nullkey.ath.cx is dead. RIP

  • @linuxkde

    Hi again!

My problem wasn't getting it to record, it was, apparently, not knowing where the results would end up. I was expecting the glc files to be put into /home/glc-recorder but because I was running glc-capture from the home directory it was of course putting them in /home.

Thanks heaps for your response and I hope this little back and forth helps anyone else not clear on what to do when recording with GLC.

  • Could you post that custom font? Looks awesome.
