@MALONEYCAMFIELD agreed. I mean apart from anything else its just good characetr development. the Doctor always wanted to pick up travelling as he was before and with his new body he could properly do so, without being tethered to UNIT

I've read that Terror of the Zygons will be released on DVD in late 2011/sometime in 2012.
I'm afraid that when this gets out on DVD, Baker will have passed.

While Terror of the Zygons is a favorite story, it is sad that TOTZ is the last appearance of the Pertwee-era UNIT team. It was actually Barry Letts and Terrance Dicks who began the process of phasing out UNIT. In Season 11, UNIT actually only appears in force in Invasion of the Dinosaurs. The final appearances of the Pertwee-era UNIT team were Robot and TOTZ. That left Elisabeth Sladen as the last link to the Pertwee era and her departure in Hand of Fear broke that final link.

I think the way the Brigadier departs from being a recurring character, in Terror of the Zygons was sad at the time but it has been reported that Nicholas Courtney was not available to return twice more to Dr Who first for the Android Invasion and then the Seeds of Doom. I have also heard it said, that Nick Courtney did not want to return after Terror of the Zygons because he had found Tom Baker very difficult to work with on Zygons. Nick wanted to not work, with Tom again, so that was that .

@teainthesahara dude thats the funnyest shit I've heard in years :)

Screw Mary Whitehouse with a Phillips.
Whitehouse was a useless bitch that NO ONE should have listened to.
The Daleks were not the Doctor's greatest enemy.....Whitehouse was.

Yeah, that's certainly true. "Terror of the Zygons" rocks alright. It's the last proper story of the UNIT era and ends it with a bang, it has to be said.
"The Android Invasion", on the other hand, is one of Tom Baker's weakest stories. I thought that both Harry and Sgt. Benton were a bit short-changed. They should have gotten a proper send-off. I think I'm right in saying that the last time we see Benton, he's unconscious and he isn't even mentioned again until "Mawdryn Undead" in 1983!

That's OK. I thought you were having a bit of a go, so thanks for the apology.
Look at it this way, at least the Brigadier had a great send-off with Terror of the Zygons. I don't think The Android Invasion would have been such a good one to end on, because although it's quite good it's nowhere near as good as Zygons. What do you think?

I just realised how rude my last post sounded. That wasn't my intention. Sorry about that.
I have to say that I respect Hinchliffe and Holmes' desire to put their own stamp on the show and I think they produced some of the best "Doctor Who" stories. I'm just a viewer with an opinion who bloody loves the Brigadier. If he appeared in "Doctor Who" only once more, I could die happy!

"I'm well aware of all that"
OK, just trying to help. I didn't know whether you knew or not.
Apparently, the Brigadier was intended to appear in The Android Invasion but Courtney was unavailable, hence the Colonel Faraday character instead. Although you probably knew that too.
I can see why UNIT was written out. Hinchcliffe and Holmes wanted to put their own stamp on the show, and I don't think UNIT would have fitted into the Graham Williams period anyway.
Why can't the Doctor just let Zygons be Zygons?

Hinchcliffe and Holmes were keen to write out the UNIT scenario, which they felt had been used enough during the Pertwee years. I liked the UNIT era but I do agree with them that they'd done more than enough of those shows by 1975.
