This is not a substitute for a sign class, only to show the signs and to provide extra resources for people out there in learning ISL (Irish Sign Language). I would heartily recommend you attend a sign class, if at all possible.

  • Great thanks. I've attended sign language classes and it's great. But I've learned how to do grey and pink differently. I suppose it's just the way some signers have there on way of doing it.

  • @KarloR27 Indeed, and my next video will be on regional variation, which gives you a brief history and summary of the variations that are available within ISL, and some reassuring words. My apologies for the long delay in replying.

  • Hi, liking the colours video. Why are there two signs for each colour as mentioned at the start of the video? What about Gold, Silver and Bronze, or colours like navy, maroon and lime would these just be finger spelled out or put as dark blue, dark red etc.

  • @AndyRivers thanks. :) There were two schools in Dublin for Deaf children, one for Deaf boys, and the other for deaf girls. they developed their own sign languages. It is only in the last 30 years that the sign vocabularies have started merging. Hence the reason there are two signs for some words in ISL.

There will be a colours Part 2 video where you can see the signs for gold, silver and bronze, and other colours. In mnost cases, if you do not know the sign for specific colours, yes, spell.

  • @mysticvean When will you make the next colours video?

  • @lukegreen37 At the moment I'm making a new revised Part 1, to deal with feedback, and a piece on Regionalo Sign Variatiion in Ireland, but they are already filmed, it's just a matter of editing and uploading. I would imagine the Part 2 colours video will be ready next week. Any specific vocabulary you would like me to cover?

  • @mysticvean Well, along with the ones in the previous video, I'd like to see gold, bronze and silver.
