Some of the nonsense that people come out with about greyhounds really bugs me. That's why I've put this together. Recently I was talking to a woman, who said she was thinking of getting a dog. I had my 2 greyhounds, Breagha & Todd with me, and she was stroking them, and saying what lovely natures they had, and they were gorgeous. So I said to her, why not adopt a retired racer. Her response was 'I couldn't possibly give up my cats.' It made me annoyed, yet another person who has made the assumption that greyhounds cannot possibly live with cats.

I'm not saying every grey will live happily with cats, its does take training, and some patience, but after being told Todd could never live with cats...well...enjoy the video...

  • Lovely pictures...although I have to say, the few pictures of the cats sleeping at the "south end" probably didn't do that for long! Damn those sensitive greyhound digestive tracts :P

  • @alsearider Oh yes...they are bad for that!

  • Hi! How did you train your greyhound to be cat-friendly? And was it difficult? Thanks so much for the video, by the way - I really want to adopt a greyhound but am so worried that he or she will be tempted to eat my kitties!

  • @chronogrl We started with a muzzle first of all, and each time he looked at the cat, we said no, and a very small tap on the nose. Then just no. Make sure the grey is on a lead though! They were fine within 6 weeks, and have been happy ever since!

  • YOUR CAT GOES OUTSIDE, ON ROCKS, AROUND WATER!? lol srry but i cant even get my cat to go near the front door...

  • @Zwinky04051 Yep, they love it!

  • Our Greyhound, Isis, gets along great with our 2 cats, Ben and Charlie. We adopted her at 2 1/2 right from the track. When we brought her home, she looked at the cats and that was it! I think they were a bit scared of her, but that lasted only a day or so. Greyhounds are awesome, gentle dogs. Please consider adoption!

  • The love of sofas, beds, blankets and warm sunny spots..means cats and greyhounds have a lot in common.lol

  • tutu my grey always had 2 cats in the house. she tolerated them. Mari the Oriental once bit her jowls and told the greyhound who was boss. After that if the cat wanted to sleep in the greyhounds' bed- she did. Now the other cat, Tutu did not care for and would snap at him. Oh well. Tutu is now at the Rainbow Bridge.

  • My boy lives very happily with 3 cats, it took approx 8 weeks to integrate them and yes it was hard work but soooo worth it in the end! Great video!!

  • My grey is the house Mother for our 7 cats. We asked for a grey that would get along with cats. For about 3 weeks we used a muzzle and then kept an eye on her. She is so good with them and the funny part is if you want her to come to you just use a high tone and call "here kitty-kitty"

  • I've had my greyhound for 1 week and she wants to play with the cats, I just keep working with them and using the muzzle and lead.

  • @czambrano13 you can't go wrong with a greyhound

  • It's just an urban myth that greys and cats don't get on... usually the least successful they are at racing the better they get on with cats...that's what I was told by sonia spears at the retired greyhound rehoming centre...and she was spot on..my grey and cat are good friends...was a bit of hissing from the cat as he was there first...but now they get on fine...the cat even rubs around the grey legs when he comes in

  • I so want to get a greyhound once I am more settled. Good to know that it'll be possible for my cat to get along with it!

  • The thing I love about greyhounds is that they have the speed and though dog face to scare off a robber but really are not aggressive, affectionate and caring. Our grey would go with anybody and she would be happy. At the same time she knows trouble when she sees it! Greyhounds are very wise
