This is me sight reading "Fire on the Mountain". I have passed by it in the book (Jam Tunes for Bluegrass Mandolin at bluegrassbooksonline.com) a few times but never played through it. This was my first time through. I kept missing the darn g#... not because I didn't know it was there. I was aware of being in the key of A, but it seemed that my finger in its haste only stretched to the regular g. Perhaps on a second reading I'll be better. After I practice a bit, I'll tape again. (I haven't picked up the mando for two months.... life got busy... so this is after a long lay-off.)

  • I know there's a Grateful Dead version with lyrics. I think this one is probably an old fiddle tune or something like that. Have you heard more?

Are you gonna post some sight reading? It's scary to post something that's probably going to bomb.

  • I dig it, and I applaud your bravery to sight read it. It took me months to work up the courage to post something.

  • Mine bomb well enough with out me having to go there.

The Marshall Tucker Band has a version.

  • I think for a first go at it that was very good. Are there more then 3 different Fire On The Mountain's?
