Network Description: "Chase DeLuca, an enterprising 24-year-old, makes his living as a computer consultant, but his real passion is music. For the past two years, he has been living with his parents in their three-bedroom, three-bath, 1,350-square-foot condo in Sun Valley, Calif. He has enjoyed his folks' hospitality, but at 24, he really feels it's time to leave the nest. He has a budget in the $500,000 to $600,000 range. Because he hopes to have several roommates to help with the mortgage, he hopes to get at least four bedrooms, three baths and 2,000 square feet. Also on the wish list is a kitchen big enough to accommodate two refrigerators, one for him and a backup for his hungry 20-something pals. To make his search hum along, he's turning to friend and realtor Brock Harris. Will Chase's search end on a high note or fall flat?"

I bought the house to share with my buddies in the a cappella group that I co-founded at CSUN, Acasola.

  • Buying a house to rent rooms to friends is a bad idea. It's not a set that his friends will stay living with him permanently. I guess he can always rent to strangers, but it just seems he's buying too big.

  • It's been working out great, actually. It's been 24 months since I bought the house, and I'm at full occupancy: 8 people in 7 bedrooms. Only 1 person is from 2 years ago, all the rest are turnover. You see, the singing group keeps bringing in new members, so I keep getting new renters! Best business decision I ever made.
