@picardposer actually the brain can do fermentation into Lactic acid, but the pH will down drastically and you will be on acidosis ;D

isn't this oxidative phosphorylation and USES oxygen(aerobic respiration)

yes it is.but you can only use OXYGEN if there is oxygen. If you are exerting yourself too much or busy drowning O2 doesn't get there in time & the mitochondria shuts down

fermentation is the "no oxygen" form of respiration. Your skeletal muscles can do it but it's not enough to keep your brain alive
