How to change the oil on your 1995-2003 5-series or 1998-2005 3 series BMW.

The BMW cars that have this engine are listed in this link:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_M54

Here are the parts you need:
1. A pan to drain the oil into
2. A wrench to undo the drain bolt which is an 18mm wrench or socket
3. A 36mm socket with corresponding wrench that fits it, or a large adjustable (thumb) wrench that expands at least 1 and 1/2 inches or 36mm.
4. Ramps or a jack with axle / jack stands to raise the front of the car in the air. Don't get under the car if it is on a jack. Run the drivers side wheels up on a high curb and crawl up in under that way if you have to.

  • Thanks for that! How come my oil filter won't turn? I turned it counter clockwise and it won't even budge

  • @jonsutubechannel The last person probably put it on too tight or didn't put oil on the O-ring. all you can do is use the proper socket (preferably a 6 sided one) and apply enough force. You could also try a strap wrench around the filter cover body. /John

  • "serviced - well what the fuck is that?"

  • nice video, thanks. very clear.

ive an e39 myself and cant get the oil filter cap off. im guessing it's what you mentioned above, no o-ring used and no oil on the cap threads - grrr! I tried a chain wrench, strap wrench, all sorts of brute force - everything. no luck. ah well, back to the stealers to get thisone sorted!

  • @77110 Sorry I can't do this video because I don't have access to an E39 to show you. If I were you I'd check out the Bentley publishers website & forum or find a good BMW forum. /John

  • top man!! can u plz,plz do a video on changing air filter for my bmw e39 2003, not pollen filter, which many seem to think r the air filters. im on about the engine air filter that sits under the engine cover. just CANNOT find a you tube video which shows how to change that...... they all seem to concentrate on the pollen filters.
