Understanding the Orthodox Faith is an introductory guide to learning the basics about the Christian Orthodox faith. Ellinas Multimedia has combined interviews with Orthodox Priests along with beautiful photography inside Orthodox churches to teach you about the following:

* When did the Orthodox faith begin?
* Who was the founder of the Orthodox faith?
* What is meant by Apostolic Succession?
* What does Holy Tradition mean?
* Why are there icons in Orthodox churches?
* Are Orthodox Christians "saved?"
* How does the Orthodox faith view the Virgin Mary?
* Are Orthodox Christians "born again?"
* Why is the Orthodox faith considered "the best kept secret?"

  • I'd like to say clearly to all as the up-loader of this video: I'm am NOT a scholar, expert, historian or priest. I do NOT represent the Church in ANY official capacity. I would NOT choose myself to do such. I'm just a guy who is Orthodox and uploaded this video. I will help answer questions to the best of my ability. My son is to be baptized today and I thought of these videos and how I may have turned away the curious by my amateur level of debating with non-Orthodox. Seek official sources.

  • @truelightwitness Where is the filioque found in Scriptures? It's not. The filioque addition goes against the decisions of the Seven Ecumenical Councils. There can not be two sources , only one the Father. The only accepted catechetical explanation allowed is "through the Son". By changing the Creed, the Latins made a canonical error.

  • @truelightwitness "Everything that belongs to the Father has been given to the Son".

    So, the Father cannot be the only one who Begots. Since he gave all to the Son, then the Son also Begots the Father. Do you believe that? Yes or No? If you say yes then you are in a terrible heresy, condemned by every christian denomination. If you say no then you accept that some things are done by the Father but not by the Son (not because the Father is more powerful, but because they are different Persons).

  • First off we dont reject church teaching on anything, which means were not heretics. Second eve if we were heretics, you should be okay with that, since the man you claim to be your authority praises heretics like Martin Luther and says that heretics and schismatics are IN the church! wake up and pull your head out o the sand!

  • @truelightwitness You sedevacantists are just a bunch of heretical protestants.

  • Everything that belongs to the Father has been given to the Son. The Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father .....AND THERFORE also proceeds from the Son. To deny that is to be a heretic. The papal see is vacant, Benedict XVI and his 4 predecessors were in fact heretical antipopes, HOWEVER St. Peters LAWFUL successors have his same divinely ordained primacy and jurisdiction. • Ortodox is the true faith.. peace from ukraine

  • @marmolejomarc Reason race is an issue is because of the persecution The Church has been under for ages. And those are the *national* boundaries it has been able to reach thus far, since Rome split from Orthodoxy, and started working on destroying Orthodox influence in the West. I'm Irish, and Orthodox. I have a friend who is Mexican, and so were his parents, and Orthodox. So...your point is?? Got an idea for YOU...why don't you take some of your own medicine, and start acting like a Christian!

  • It is good your son is getting baptized, I am thinking about becoming an orthodox christian..forgive me if my rebukes were too harsh and not said in love.. look all I know is this..there is deception out there watered down faith, churchs that put on a concert, men left to their own devices to make church how they see fit... I want more than a concert i want the church that jesus planted the one that the gates of hell will no prevail against, i want to be united with Christ thru communion.

  • @marmolejomarc I apologize. I feel under attack a lot (defensive). I was born and raised in Texas, not Greece. I know for a fact that only educated Americans usually even know what the Byzantine Empire was, much less the fact that Orthodoxy is the original Church. The facts are clear on this. What you may not know is that the Catholic dominated western world has diligently defamed and suppressed all knowledge of Orthodoxy in "western" nations. Catholic renegades, like Protestants, do the same.
