If you can't use atomic weapons, what's the point except to facilitate the destruction of the world as we know it i.e "Doctor Strange Love". Granted nukes are a deterrent when dealing with other sane people that have nukes. The strongest country in the world, in the number of nukes, and the Western World is being kicked in the shins by, so far, non-nuclear entities. I applaud the work of bands such as USAFE for their part in building relationships with our world neighbors.
Glenn Miller would have been proud, Sousa would have been proud and every great player who has marched in the USAF band is proud. As an old Drum and Bugle Corps member I enjoyed this to the max. All you haters - you got no soul.
It kinda sorta makes me a little sick to my stomach. Jazz being led by a guy wearing meddles... a cadre of robotic straight standing right angle cats. Except when they wiggle der buttz.
But, hey man! At least it's a gig!! You're well payed including a rack and 3 square meals a day... Plus hanging out and commiserating with 50 other cats! Damn, sign me up!! I was a drummer in the Calif National Guard band for 6 years and we would have killed a chart like this.
The more I watch this clip the more I like it. Congratulations to the USAFE Band. The crowd seems to have enjoyed this performance. That's a great part of what USAF Banding is about. Building relationships within and without the United States.
This performance is a long-standing tradition for the AF Band in Germany... I performed in this very event in 1990 while stationed there...and the Germans LOVE IT!! Having performed both with the ceremonial group, symphonic wind ensemble, and Ambassadors Jazz Band during my tenure...we played EVERYTHING we could to make sure we represented the USA as best we could! This band is considered by our European friends as a "gift" to them from the USA! Music is not a "static" art!
It is no longer what country has the most weapons, it is what country's military band can put on the best show. That's really not too bad. Regrettably I have yet to see a Red Chinese military band put such a show, btw, thanks to Facebook I've seen a Russian military band put on jaw dropping show. I can get into a military bands race, which means money is spent on choreography and marching drills to put on the best show versus a weapons race. There's room for Sousa. It's how it's presented.
bellissimo!!!
