The recent (May, 2009) death of David Donald reminded me that when I first met him in 1995 I asked him to inscribe a copy of his Lincoln biography for my Georgetown U contemporary and friend, President Bill Clinton. I was pleased a few weeks later when the President mentioned the book at Ford's Theatre on national tv. After seeing the show I asked my friend George on the West Coast to tape the show and send me the tape. He did, and I transcribed the President's remarks and sent them to David. Now with the advent of youtube and under the provisions of fair use, I am able to share this little episode with a wider audience.
