  • This is the "Maynard Ferguson Sextet" from 1965. Wow! This is an extremely rare video of the group and not to mention a rare album to find. I think the album was titled "Six By Six". It has surfaced under the re-issue called "Magnitude" on CD. Kudos to the poster of this video! I think the drumer is Tony Izalico. Mike Abene was in the group as well.

  • The drummer is Randy Jones, piano Pete Jackson, and bass Dave Lynanne ( hope I spelled his name right )

  • that must have caused a lot of pain for his mother...

  • Maynard and my father, who put Kenton's album that featured MF in Concerto to End All Concertos on the HI-FI in the early 60s, died months apart. I started playing the horn in the fourth grade because of that album. Later I came across the album that included Summertime. I always loved this piece!!!

  • drum player kills the song

  • Whoops! My Bad! "Six by Six" is the re-release of "The Maynard Ferguson Sextet". "Maynard 1967" is a double album, one with the second best version of this great song, behind the 1965 version noted above. One side is an orchestra and the other, a sextet, both with Canadian Musicians at Montreal. DanV

  • This "Summertime" is not "The Maynard Ferguson Sextet" from 1965, nor "Six By Six", from the Montreal Jazz Festival in 1967. It is from 1975 and is a quartet, for those of you who count to four, but not six. Interesting, but the previous two versions are far superior, as Maynard was still in his prime and playing with longtime band members (1965), Willie Maiden on Tenor, Lanny Morgan on Alto, Tony Inzalaco on drums, Ron McClure on bass, and Mike Abene on piano. Don't miss either version! DanV

  • Merci beaucoup de partager ! Thanks a lot for sharing !

  • why is ringo starr on drums :)

all beatles aside this is one of my favourite renditions of this piece :)

  • Actually, the original Mainstream Records Lp was titled simply, "The Maynard Ferguson Sextet." There's no date on my original copy, but I purchased it upon its release in 1965.

  • The album was originally released in 1965 not 1975 according to the liner notes

  • Maynard, the best!!!!

  • delicious
