an audio file is 'scanned' by playing a small loop section, and then gradually moving the loop from the beginning of the file to its end. the scanning is visualised with a cylinder, where each vertice is linked to amplitude at a certain time. the time distribution across number of vertices is such that the radius equals exactly one loop duration; so the loop amplitude displacement is outwards radially, with the most recent loop at the top, and xth loop in history, x number of cross-sections down from the top...i just used a simple percussion section on a gong made from a bullet shell for this example.
Nice idea.
