My few years old simple remix of the great theme from Jet Set Willy, which I loved to listen to on my Atari 800 XE. It is not finished and will not be, but still might be worth trying, provided you like the original.

  • @WhiteFalconus : I especially like this version. But the melody is somewhat familiar to me - is it Jean-Michel Jarre inspired? Oxygène? Équinoxe? Please aid, looking for the original...

  • @hippocrates72 I can understand how it reminds you of Jarre, I bet the author was inspired there, but I am convinced this one is original.

  • And where did you get THAT from again?

  • awsome job dude, five stars for you :)

  • Hey, thanks a lot! :)

  • sounds like a ps1 port of this atari 8 bit computer classic!

  • YEAH ;D

  • @sandwichtube; "Atari is a 4 bit system!!!"

Strictly speaking, in terms of sound, this is true- when controlled directly, the sound chip output can be one of 16 levels, i.e. 4 bit resolution. That's why samples on the 800 sound very coarse compared to the Amiga (8-bit sample output) or CDs (16-bit).

However, this only really applies to sample playback, and POKEY was never intended for that anyway (like most chips of its era). It was meant for square-wave sound, where 16 volume levels is fine.

  • @sandwichtube You're thinking of the wrong Atari system.

  • nice work.

  • im just wondering if theres any difference between the 800XE and the normal 800/65/130 xl/xe machines? can anyone help? thanx!
